This warm Calvados apple galette is a taste of fall on your plate! This simple recipe for a fall dessert is full of seasonal apples, spices, and just a hint of Calvados or apple brandy to add an extra layer of flavor. Without much prep, you'll have a beautiful, seasonal dessert to impress!
Ingredients
  • 1 pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
  • 3 apples, peeled, cored, and cut into slices
  • 3 Tbsp. unsalted butter
  • ½ C. brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp C. Calvados or apple brandy, plus 1 Tbsp., reserved
  • 2 Tbsp. water
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp. cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp. nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp. fine salt
  • 1 large egg
  • Turbinado, or raw, sugar, for sprinkling
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Core and slice the apples. You can peel them if you’d like, but there’s no need.
  3. Toss the apples with the vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Combine 1 tablespoon of water with the brown sugar and microwave for 15 to 20 seconds, until syrupy.
  5. Heat the butter over medium heat, then place the apples into the pan. Add the brown sugar and apple brandy and stir the apples until softened and the brandy and brown sugar have reduced to a bubbling, syrupy sauce, 10 to 15 minutes.
  6. Take out the crust and place on a parchment or Silpat-lined sheet pan, then place apples into the middle of the crust, making sure you have enough room to fold the crust over the apples.
  7. Fold up the crust over the apple and pinch overlaps together to ensure it stays together.
  8. Mix egg, water, and the tablespoon of Calvados until combined, then brush over the crust. Sprinkle turbinado sugar over the crust and place into the oven.
  9. Bake for half an hour, or until the crust is golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool for 10 minutes, then serve.
